Last week, 40 young activists from Global 2000/Friends of the Earth Austria joined the largest food sovereignty protest in Germany – the “Wir-haben-es-satt” (we are fed up) demonstration.
The 10th edition of the protest took place in Berlin, with more than 25.000 people from various organisations and backgrounds gathering in the German capital to demand a just and sustainable agrarian transformation.
Amongst them were farmers – participating with their tractors – as well as a diverse mix of environmental, animal rights and consumer NGOs. Inspiring speeches were held at the initial gathering (by Vandana Shiva and others) before the crowds started their way dancing and chanting through the city.
The “We are fed up” demonstration stands as a remarkable example of bringing together a highly diverse group of organisations and people which are all concerned about the current agricultural system. GLOBAL 2000 decided to join this gathering with a big group of Austrian youth who share the same concerns.
The yearly demonstration is not only a perfect moment to publicly demand change but also a reoccurring opportunity for young people to come together, share opinions and learn from each other.
