Friends of the Earth Malta believes that Maltese farmers deserve more support, and that they have a lot to learn and teach each other. With this in mind, they organised a series of five sessions in Floriana, in the south-east of the country, called “From Farmers to Farmers” where rural youth were encouraged to come together and learn from each other.
Targeting the full- and part-time farmers and agriculture enthusiasts, the participants discussed and shared their practices with each other.
The group met together for the first social gathering, learning about each other through fun games. The group was encouraged to propose topics for the next sessions, where one person would give a talk or a farm tour to share their knowledge on a specific topic.
Further sessions involved organic composting practices, tips on breeding and taking care of free-range Maltese chickens for egg production, and tree grafting on almond trees.
Unfortunately due to COVID-19 the sessions had to end abruptly. However, it was a learning process for all of us at Friends of the Earth Malta and also for the rural youth who made connections during the sessions.
