Glasgow, 6 November 2021. Yesterday, thousands of people around the world took to the streets to demand climate justice on the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice. More than 200 actions and demonstrations were taking place around the world. Young Friends of the Earth Europe joined other groups and activists in Glasgow to march through the city to demand a radical system change.
We demand intersectional system change, otherwise we will fail in tackling the climate crisis. This was highlighted at the march in Glasgow on the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice, which had different blocks, emphasising that climate justice cannot be achieved without an intersectional approach. We need integrated and holistic system change in order to achieve a socially just and ecologically fair future. We need justice for indigenous people, trade unions, underrepresented communities, youth, people of all genders, races and sexual orientations as well as a reset within our food, health, energy, mobility and economic systems. That is the only way to prevent a climate catastrophe and fight against the climate crisis.
Climate justice equals:
- Accessibility justice
- Environmental justice
- Health justice
- Human rights justice
- Social Justice
- Economic justice
- System justice
”We want a radical change of the system. There is no time for empty promises and messages! We demand a system reset. And we demand it now!”Marika Schoenherr, Young activist from Friends of the Earth Malta
