As part of the Growing Together project, (Young) Friends of the Earth Cyprus organised a series of screenings to introduce environmental topics that affect agricultural production – such as climate change – and introduce the idea of food sovereignty by revealing the stories of people that live in rural areas around the world and produce our food.
The films they showed were “Disobedience” by Kelly Nyks and Tad Fetting, “Autrement (avec des légumes)” by Anne Closset and “Humans and the Land” by Ynn-Arthus Bertrand. After every documentary there was a discussion about the films and the subjects they are dealing with.
Watch Disobedience – the story of the struggle to save the world.
A highlight was that in the last week of screenings we presented the documentary “Humans and the Land”. This film deals with the relation between with their land and each farmer addresses the reasons they became farmers, the frustrations they face and what makes them happy.

Since no Cypriot farmers were involved in the documentary, we invited to our screenings farmers from rural Cyprus to share their stories with us after the screening. The result was extremely interesting and both farmers and audience seemed to be satisfied and enthusiastic about the event. The audience interviewed the farmers and the farmers shared some of their wisdom with us.
