Young FoEE in Geneva: Abigail Hartshorn Guerrero speaking up at the UN Binding Treaty negotiations

31/10/2025

Abigail Hartshorn Guerrero attended the 11th negotiations of the UN Legally Binding Treaty on Business and Human Rights where she spoke on behalf of Jordens Vänner (Friends of the Earth Sweden) and Young Friends of the Earth.

Her statement focused on the need to avoid reservations within the treaty, as allowing them would allow for ratification by states without full implementation, leaving space for corporate impunity, human rights violations, and environmental destruction. Abigail’s speech called for enforceable commitments from the UN if we want justice for communities and the planet. Her speech given during the negotiations can be viewed here (at 9 minutes).

During her time there, Abigail also assisted the communications team with recording videos, taking photos, and translating content. She focused on networking in order to create alliances that championed the voices of young people throughout these important negotiations.

YFoEE also made an Instagram post about Abigail’s trip to Geneva. It can be viewed here.
