In early 2024, having gone straight from school to university, I felt like i had my life mapped out in front of me. However, pursuing education without a gap year had left me without an opportunity to explore what I actually carried passion for.
While I always held the opinion that climate change is one of the biggest obstacles our generation has to face, I never didn’t find my place in this movement that took the monstrous task of solving the climate crisis upon themselves. This movement made up of young people fighting and screaming at the top of their lungs. Wrestling with the system for a livable future. Until it found me.
Stumbling into a vibrant volunteer group by sheer accident, I found myself surrounded by eager young people, buzzing like a bee hive. Like me, they felt unheard in politics and were worried for their future. They were a step ahead of me though – they were already fighting to change that.
No more than a year later, I find myself leaping from project to project. Inspired by the people around me, I can’t help but feel like I belong. Its through the same passion in NGO work that I found my way to YFoEE, in which I met more people that share my goal of empowering other young people to take charge of their own future and through that, find new ways in which I can empower myself to do the same.
