TTIP isn’t tasty!

23/10/2014

Written by Toril Meyer-Gerlt, BUNDjugend/YFoE Germany

On 11th October, tens of thousands of people and hundreds of organisations in 21 countries were on the streets to protest against TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership), CETA (Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement) and TiSA (Trade in Services Agreement).

The decentralised European Day of Action, consisting of over 300 actions, marches, meetings and flash mobs, was organised by an alliance of civil society groups and individuals, social movements, trade unions, consumer rights defenders, farmers, youth and grassroots activist groups.
BUNDjugend (YFoE Germany) organised several actions all over Germany. In Bonn, a group of young people disguised as lobbyists, chickens, cows and corn tried to raise awareness on TTIP and CETA with the help of banners and flyers. The BUNDjugend group in Berlin set up a restaurant scene on a traffic island with a TTIP menu saying “chlorine-washed chicken filled with MONSANTomatoes” and “genetically modified asparagus with sauce hormonaise”. The activists invited pedestrians to enjoy the “special menu” in their restaurant. Afterwards, almost 1000 citizens demonstrated against TTIP, CETA and TiSA in the streets of Berlin.

Beyond that, several BUNDjugend groups informed people about TTIP, CETA and TiSA and the reasons why we have to stop the negotiations on those three far-reaching trade agreements. Furthermore, every group tried to collect as many signatures as possible for the self-organised European Citizens’ Initiative to prevent TTIP and CETA. We still need some 350.000 signatures to crack the number of one million. You haven’t signed the Initiative yet? Then click here to leave your signature. After this, share the link with your friends so that they can sign, too.

Do not stop the protest against TTIP and CETA! Do some great actions with your friends, have a lot of fun and show everybody that TTIP and CETA have to be stopped!
