Young people join FoE Russia Annual Conference online

Between 23rd and 27th November, Friends of the Earth Russia (Russian Social-Ecological Union) held its Annual Conference online. Several young activists of the organisation attended the sessions despite the disappointing world situation related to the covid-19 pandemic.

FoE Russia organised a series of webinars, workshops and discussions on the following themes: 

– Marine litter and microplastic: Russian experience and initiatives – expert discussion science achievement on microplastic, improvement of treatment facilities for capturing particles, microplastic monitoring and reduction of pollution (http://rusecounion.ru/ru/microplastics_conference2020)

– Sustainable waste management: waste reform in Russia and contribution to development of separate collection, regional activities. A month before the conference the information campaign #ZeroWasteOneHundredApproaches was held in FoE Russia during November. Campaign was aimed to highlight the problem and solutions in waste management; 15 posts were published on the social media channels of FoE Russia (http://rusecounion.ru/ru/waste_campaign_all)

– Workshop “Against nuclear and radiation threats” – expert discussion of the main problems of nuclear energy in Russia and the actions of activists to solve these problems (http://rusecounion.ru/ru/antinuclear_conf_rseu)

– Climate and energy: solutions for the future – experts from non-profit organizations (NGOs), higher education institutions, scientists and environmental activists discussed new developments in climate policy and practice in Russia and other countries and NGOs plans to promote climate action (http://rusecounion.ru/ru/climateconference2020)

– Environmental Education – the overview of environmental education development system in Russia, presentation of national experience of NGOs, expert discussion and regional cases. 

The last two days of conference (28-29th November), focused on strategic issues and organizational development and included an annual report of programmes and campaigns of FoE Russia.
