#ReclaimPower roundup

BUNDJugend/Young Friends of the Earth Germany: Don’t be a Fossil Fool & anti-TTIP March

On the 9th and 10th of October BUNDJugend joined the Reclaim Power Global Days of Action and performed a photo stunt asking to end fossil fuel subsidies as well as joining the huge anti-TTIP and CETA demonstration in Berlin. BUNDJugend marched together with 250,000 people from environmental organisations, labour unions and social movements with the message: ‘We won’t let you obstruct our future!’. Check out the video of the march and find more pictures here.

Young Friends of the Earth Scotland: Demo against air pollution

As part of the Reclaim Power global day of action, YFoE Scotland/Climate Action together with Friends of the Earth Glasgow and local community groups organised a demonstration against high levels of air pollution in one of Glasgow’s busiest, and most polluted, streets. The action tackled a local issue, which kills 300 Glasgow residents each year, and is a direct consequence of not turning our backs on fossil fuels. Groups urged Scotland to take action against its complacency towards heavy fossil fuel usage and empower its citizens by adding cleaner, greener and more sustainable ways of transport and infrastructure. Participants were dressed in protective suits and masks to highlight the illegal emissions levels, and hung an enormous neon gas mask from one of the buildings. Follow GUCA’s (Climate Action) facebook page to find more about the action.

Jongeren Milieu Actief/Young Friends of the Earth Netherlands/: Marching against TTIP and CETA

On the 10th YFoE Netherlands/Jongeren Milieu Actief joined the anti-TTIP march in Amsterdam. More than 7,000 people joined this action: from environmental groups to concerned individuals, to political parties and labour unions. The cause was heavily promoted within poeple on the streets and got lots of media attention. Find pictures of the action here, and footage of JMA protesting TTIP and CETA with 7,000+ others.

Jeunes Amis de la Terre/Young Friends of the Earth France: Change your bank!

On Saturday October 10th, clients from BNP Paribas, fed up with the bank’s polluting activities, closed their savings accounts publicly. BNP has invested more than 15 billion euros in coal since 2005. Clients symbolically broke the coal industry’s piggybank, to place their money in ethical banks and renewable energy funding programmes. Friends of the Earth France also used the opportunity to remind major French banks they can sign the Paris Pledge to stop financing the coal industry.
