Berlin, Germany – Tuesday, 16th September 2014.
A giant Trojan horse and a lot of people with banners, placards and shirts from BUNDjugend (Young FoE Germany) and BUND (FoE Germany) in front of the German parliament building “Reichstag”. What does that mean? Last Tuesday BUNDjugend and BUND inflated the eight-metre high Trojan horse in front of the Reichstag in Berlin to draw attention to the hidden dangers of the EU-US trade deal (known as TTIP or the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership).
We created a strong and significant image with banners and placards saying “Genetic engineering, no thanks!”, “Stop chlorine-washed chicken!” and “We don’t want fracking”. The Trojan horse is symbolic for TTIP which smuggles the dangers of the deal, which could allow hormones in meat, toxic chemicals and genetic corn into the EU. Read a short report (in German) from the action.
The giant Trojan horse is on a European tour to raise awareness of the threats posed by the secret EU-US trade talks. The tour started in Denmark. After two successful actions in Germany the horse travels to Hungary and Belgium in 2014, and Austria, Spain, Lithuania and Estonia in 2015. You can follow news from the tour online.
You think that TTIP needs to be stopped, too?! Then grab some friends, start an action and join the decentralized European day of action to stop TTIP, CETA & TiSA on 11th October 2014! You are not alone! All over Europe people will protest against the planned agreement on this day.
Almost 230 organizations from 21 EU countries formed the “Stop TTIP” alliance against TTIP and CETA. On 11th September 2014 the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) they initiated was rejected by the European Commission. This is even more reason to keep on protesting against TTIP! If you need more information about TTIP you can read the following position paper written by Friends of the Earth Europe.
Don’t miss the chance to act against TTIP!
